So, for this month’s Vox show (more an that later), Kyle was making a couple mixed media tiles while I worked on some transfers. Suddenly everyone was crafting and Erin was not going to be left out! She wanted to craft too! Believe me, everything with that girl is followed by an exclamation point. And because I’m not always the sharpest tool (I blame all that crafty glue sniffin’), I bought Erin a Crayola Color Wonders paint/marker/Sleeping Beauty set.

Now Erin is “crafting” too. And pretty damn obsessed with those paints. Time for bed? God speed. You’ll have to pry that paint brush from her G.I.Joe kung-fu grip. And lets hope you didn’t value your hearing much, cause you’re ears are now bleeding. That can’t be good. And her first words upon waking in the morning? “I craft?!”  “You help me craft?!” “I’m not hungry! I craft now!!”

So, yeah… she crafts. I’m wicked scared.

Yep, that’s Chris, the reluctant model for one of the Utata Iron Photographer projects. And speaking of Utata, guess who is part of their new Code Ninja Strike Force? That’s right – me! And that is their title, not mine - these are my people! I’m told I’ll be paid in cake. That’s cool.

In other big news, in the paying gig world, I am the new Code Artist for Sweet Blog Design! I am so happy to be working with some of my favorite bloggers.

I sold a photo. I am a Code Ninja/Code Artist/geek. I think that covers it.

After having the month of January off (just couldn’t pull my piece together in time due to those pesky holidays!), I’m showing again in February’s Second Saturday show at Vox! Me and an intimate group of 35 artists! And you guessed it – the theme is “love”. I have no idea what I’m going to show.

As I mentioned, I’m not taking a computer programming class this semester. And apparently dropping that Rails class threw a switch in my brain! Not only has the right hemisphere taken back control of my brain, it erected a wall one night while I was sleeping. The left hemisphere has been shut out. And is in black-out conditions. I can’t even think about programming and websites. Which is a shame because I do have some coding work to do. But everytime I think about it, things get kinda of fuzzy and I suddenly have an idea for an art project! Weird huh? I seem to to be functioning  in a very strict either/or mode. Long gone are the days of thinking in if/else statements. Now I ponder whether the highlights on that stamp should be silver or gold. I like it. And since the creative muse if often fleeting, I’m gonna ride this wave as long as it lasts.

I’ve broken out the Mod Podge, stamps, and tissue paper and have been creating. It feels good to get out from behind the camera for awhile and make something with my hands.   ”I cooking.”

Ah yes, I was going to tell you my theory on why I believe Erin was switched with another baby at the hospital. But the proof is in the pudding and a picture is worth a thousand words. Behold:

She did NOT get that from me! She was all “I cooking” for hours Christmas morning with the sound of those “dancing shoes” clicking on the tiles. I swear I broke out in a rash just watching her!

But maybe these things skip a generation. Because later Christmas evening there was this:

Where am I known by name? the camera store? local coffee shop? no. The pharmacy. Well, that just kinda sucks. There was a time when I paid the “regular” price for beers at Paycheck’s. And my “pharmacist” was an old black man named Woody. aah youth…

But I got to relive a little bit of that youth that very same day when I went downtown Tuesday night. I went to a club. I saw a band. I saw X at Harlows! and they were fanfuckintastic! Suddenly all was right with my world again. And as soon as my ears stop ringing and my hip heals, I’ll think about doing it again!

According to the Geek-to-English translator, that means: My semester finished the week of Christmas and I received an A in my PHP and MySQL Programming class!

Woot!

That means I am “quite pleased”.

And my gift to my family this Christmas was my decision to not take a Computer Science class next semester. Not because this was a hard class, in fact it was surprisingly easy compared to that evil JavaScript, but I’ve got a couple projects in the hopper that I need to be working on. And yes, those projects will involve PHP and MySQL. It’s all about the if/else statements people!

Chris would say that I’ve finally come over to the dark side. I would tell him to “byte me!”

Next up: Why I think they switched babies on me at the hospital…
