In the temple of the gallery scene

Well, 5 years after covid blew up my little art world, I am not only making art again, I am showing art again!! In fact, I have pieces in 2 shows this month.

Erin and I both have pieces in the annual Membership Medley at Blue Line Arts in Roseville.

My piece is a monotype "Damaged" that I made last fall during my gell plate printing phase. And Erin's piece is the first portrait that she painted! She kicks ass as I'm sure I've said before.

The 3rd Saturday Reception is July 19th from 5-7pm

The second show I am in is The Art of Printmaking at The MACC. This show is really exciting for me as it was juried and my first lithograph was accepted!

The reception was last weekend, but the show is up until July 26th and I can' recommend it enough. So much great work - and all printmaking! ::swoon::

Well I finished my video game. There may have been tears - but you have no proof, so move along! There was a huge twist, a couple shocking and painful betrayals, and then an amazing ending that leaves you chomping at the bit for the next installment of the game! A quick google search assured me that it is in the works, although I didn’t watch the recently released trailer because there is only so much a girl can handle in one afternoon!

Of course I’ve since started the game over with a new character who will now make all the opposite big decisions to see what happens. It is strange how even the most off-handed comments from the companions takes on new meaning now…

But you didn’t come here for talk of video games -or did you? More geek less art? What about when worlds collide??

Fine. Art. ha!

I have a solo show in June at the Sacramento Poetry Center. Ta-da! ::hides paper bag I’ve been breathing into behind back::

I keep waking up with my brain running around in circles trying to decide on a show title. oh my god. my brain is so annoying! So I invited Bethanie (who’s fault this is, feel free to join me in shooting her dirty looks) over the other night to discuss details and what not. I had planned on showing all my recent drawing (and now the watercolors), but the Sac Poetry Center is a pretty big space and she suggested I hang some paintings too. I’m not sure that helped my head. So, now it’s not just the drawings but all the things! I woke up this morning thinking all the thoughts!! The madness continues. So, I’ve got some work to do. And most of it revolves around not stressing myself the fuck out for shits and giggles. Cause that’s kinda what I do. Crap! What if she wants an artist statement??!!

Practical to-do list: purchase a lot of mats and frames. Stain sides of newest paintings. Buy more paper bags.

June 8th will be the 2nd Saturday reception. I’ll get more details up soon, but mark your calendars and come out and see the work in person - always so much better than the photos on little screens. You can see me too. We’ll talk nerdy things and it won’t be awkward at all. ::thud::





Art Season

Winter turned to spring, April to May, and here we are face to face with the realization that there is only a little over a month left of the school year and our peaceful kid-free days. May Day indeed! All is not lost though, May also brings with it a lot of art opportunities! 

If you've been following along at home (read: Instagram) you know that I have been doing quite a bit of screen printing lately. I've been printing that moth on anything and everything that isn't moving - good thing Olive is quick on her feet! I was even able to resolve a series of old monoprints that "needed a little something more". And the timing was perfect as the Art League of Lincoln put out a call for its first Traditional Printmaking Exhibit.

I'm happy to say that 3 of my monotypes are included in the amazing show judged by the talented Vinay Sharma! 

The show runs May 2 to June 2, 2018 at Lincoln Arts 580 6th St. Lincoln CA 

There is an Artist Reception on Saturday, May 12th from 5:00 - 6:30pm. I hope to see you there!

May also is the beginning of the Art Auction season at the Crocker Art Museum! I look forward to the Big Names, Small Art event every year. Small artworks (12"x12" and under) by all your favorite artists up for auction with bids starting at $25. What could be better??

Having a painting included in the Crocker's annual Art Auction! I am still doing the happy dance that started last month when I received that acceptance letter. It is such a honor to have a piece of art hanging in such a great museum!

Big Names, Small Art (BNSA) is Thursday, May 24th 5:00-9:00pm. Get a ticket and come out and enjoy an fun evening of art, music, food, drinks, and mingling with amazing artists. Bid on The Hand of Man and then be sure to head inside and check out A Dance of Splinter and Bone and all the works that are in the Annual Art Auction. They are on exhibit for the 2 weeks leading up to the auction on June 2nd.
