My cross-stitch piece Dr. Frank-n-Furter has been accepted to the Placerville Arts Association's 60th National Mother Lode Art Exhibition!
“This long-running Placerville Arts Association exhibit has grown into one of the region’s most anticipated art shows. Now hosted at the MACC for the fifth consecutive year, this dynamic exhibit features artworks from across the United States. With an open theme that does not adhere to the show’s name, each exhibition is unique, shaped by the distinctive selections of the juror. This show is a must-see, offering a diverse array of classic and contemporary art that captures the creativity and talent of artist nationwide.”

I had started this piece at the beginning of this year. I put it aside in late January after the By Hand reception at Blue Line Arts. I had 3 cross-stitch pieces in that exhibit and they took the 2nd Place prize. In chatting with the show’s juror, the idea of working in a larger scale came up and that’s what I did. I started manipulating my patterns to be able to stitch with a larger, more open design and my pieces doubled in size. But when Tim Curry passed away on Aug 25th, I immediately pulled this project out and finished it. I love Tim Curry in all his roles, but Rocky Horror has always been on of my favorite movies. Of course, this was was not the first Frank-n-Furter piece I made. He was a favorite subject during my gel-plate monotype phase in 2024.
What are your favorite Tim Curry movies?
