Featured Artist at Nevada City's First Friday Art Walk

wow. I jumped at a last minute opportunity and now am the Featured Artist for July at The Parlour at Neva Co in Nevada City! The Parlour is a 'Vintage and Local Artisan Boutique' that has a fun and beautiful blend of local handmade artisan treasures and hand picked vintage clothing and accessories. And for the month of July - my paintings and photographs hanging on the walls!

And then check the weather forecast for a day under 100 degrees and head over to Cal Expo for the CA State Fair. I have a piece in the Fine Art Exhibit (Expo Ctr Bld 7) again this year. And this year's show is a good one!

Summertime Shows

The school year is almost over, the temps are rising, summer is just around the corner. And summertime means the California State Fair and Viewpoint's Annual Member's Exhibition!

And while as long as I pay my annual membership fees, the Viewpoint show is a gimme; I am beyond thrilled to again have 2 pieces accepted in the Fine Arts Exhibit at this years State Fair!

The first piece is a triptych of B&W photographs:

Received an Award of Excellence!!

And the second piece is my latest painting "Singing Over the Bones":

 Received an Award of Merit!

This is a 30"x30" acrylic/mixed media painting.   This canvas has been through so many stages and layers before this final version, it is a new direction for me and I am so pleased it will be included in the exhibition.

I'm also working on an extremely small by comparison 6"x6" piece for the The Temp's 6x6 | Year 2 show opening on June 6th.

And I'm still trying to decide on the piece to hang for the Viewpoint Member's Show. If I have the time between my son's volleyball tournaments, I might try to hand-color a print. No promises.

State Fair Awards Ceremony

So, in triple digit heat (and against everyone's better judgement) Chris, Erin, and I went to the California State Fair last Saturday for the Fine Arts Exhibit Awards Ceremony.

I picked up my Merit Award ribbons and received the Viewpoint Photographic Art Center Award for Color Photography for "Madonna and Child"! And from the Exhibit Catalog:

Juror's Statement

The color photograph Madonna and Child references 16th century ecclesiastical artwork. This artist usea a Madonna paired with a cherubic-baby doll and a Renaissance-color palette to create a double-take piece of hyperbole that is a thought provoking and imaginative piece. - Sharmon Goff

Find a nice cool day (at least below 100 degrees!) and go to the fair before it closes on the 29th!
